Wink Save Energy - Use Blackle ..

Blackle is Google search engine which is all black in color (as the name says). Blackle’s screen is all black, and it saves a large amount of power as it consumes very less power as compared to the power and energy consumed by Google Home Page. They also say that its good for your eyes as working in bright colors for long time can harm your eyes in long term.
According to a ecoIron if Google changes its color codes to black, then they would be able to save 3000 MW-Hours per year. Phew! That’s a good amount of energy saved. Experiencing the Global warming, we all must take initiative to save energy.
So , start using Blackle instead of Google ...

ive seen this before. its only really energy efficient if you use a CRT monitor, because on a TFT screen light is given out of each pixel regardless of the color, whereas CRT give out less light per pixel depending on the shade.

It could be useful if you use your computer in very low or no light, because the contrast in colors will be really easy to see.

It still takes more energy to create white light than it does to create black light. A minuscule amount, but if a million people use it, it's a significant save.

I just found Blackle, changed my homepage to it, trying to spread the word.

It seems I've gotten greener in my old age. :-P

Not if you use an LCD.
an LCD just shines light through every pixel, and then the liquid crystals will block out the light components that are not supposed to be shining through, and lets through the components that are.

If the pixel is supposed to be black, it will block all of the red, green and blue components of light out. But it won't stop the backlight from shining onto the pixels.

Useless on a LCD, but I think it looks better so I'll be using it
