I have noticed that it takes about a month or two to be assigned a page rank. Is that true? I also think that you must have a page rank in order to be on page one of a search engine search. Is this true? I am trying to get on page one for the search terms 'email hosting' for my site www.emailhosting.com I do not have a page rank yet and I'm just wondering if anyone out there knows for sure whether a page rank must be assigned before one can get onto page one of the search results. I am in the process of submitting my site to every search engine and directory out there. Also, I plan on actually putting an email hosting company on my site once I achieve prime search results for the keywords 'email hosting'. Any thoughts?

I have noticed that it takes about a month or two to be assigned a page rank. Is that true? --- some times short, some times longer... i would say an average time is 7-15 weeks. I also think that you must have a page rank in order to be on page one of a search engine search. Is this true? --- NO, you can find sites that rank #1 with no Page Ranking, etc. and find sites that have PR3 and outrank PR 5-6-7 sites. I am trying to get on page one for the search terms 'email hosting' for my site www.emailhosting.com --- your main problem is is "hosting" EVERYONE is competing for the term "hosting".... so you need a WHOLE lot of stuff going for your site to get ranking for email hosting. I do not have a page rank yet and I'm just wondering if anyone out there knows for sure whether a page rank must be assigned before one can get onto page one of the search results. -- again, no... Page Ranking is not required. Sites generally get ranked before the PR comes I am in the process of submitting my site to every search engine and directory out there. Also, I plan on actually putting an email hosting company on my site once I achieve prime search results for the keywords 'email hosting'. -- very good to get links or sign up for related directories. submitting to SE? well, okay, but I would do it MANUAL... DON'T use any software or 3rd party service. note: I would think there are only 10 search engines you need to submit to. Spend more time on getting into directories ![]() your going up a tough road, but some body has to be ranked # 1... might as well be you good luck Any thoughts?

You're right it is going to be a tough battle. I've learned a couple of things along the way though. I have downloaded the Google toolbar which tells me what pages have high page ranks. I have also realized that when you submit to some of the directories, the subpages where you end up usually have little or no page rank which means that these pages do not really help you that much. It is the homepage of those sites that usually have the high page rank and that is where you need to be. Maybe, over the long term, those subpages will receive a higher page rank; nevertheless, we will see what happens by August of this year which should be three months of Search Engine Optimization efforts.
