Hi, all
I currently run a technology web site. This is my newest (and most favorite) project. I started the site with the goal of monetization, but first I need to build up my traffic.
I am looking for opinions as to whether an iPhone app can successfully be used to market my website. My site consists of sub-blogs and more sub-blogs will be added in the future. Right now there is the main Tech Vixen blog and three sub-blogs - Gaming Vixen, Comp Vixen, and Gadget Vixen. The App would be set up in a similar fashion - the user downloads the app and is able to read the newest articles from each sub-blog within the app. Kind of like the Marketingprofs app, actually. I may even have separate, shorter content snippets for the app instead of the full articles. More iPhone friendly, with maybe just the outline of the article and a link to then visit the website in Safari from the phone to read the rest of the story.
Does this sound like a viable method of driving traffic to you? The app would be free initially - and I'm thinking that depending on its success, I can eventually sell it for 0.99 or something.
Creating this isn't a problem. I work with a bunch of game developers and programmers, and have links to another games company which released one of the top iPhone games some time ago, so it would not be much trouble for me to find someone who can create an iPhone app for me for free - though I would insist on paying them for the service anyway.
What do you think? Worth going through the trouble of creating an app? The Marketinprofs.com app seems to be doing well, but they would have released the app -after- they had a good user base, not -to- get a user base. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
