| basic programs and utilities to "build" a search engine? not sure what you mean? A search engine is "logic" written in a computer language that performs a certain task. It is just a program. Obviously, a good search engine is more complex than a simple program ![]() |

| True Techie | you are right .... i think a search engine is developed by selecting a Perfect Data Structure i mean a searching Algorithm and make a program for this algorithm and them implement it.

| every search engine has a algorithm behind it, that is usually made in C++, as for now, no body can beat Google, so better is to get their engine algorithm, and use it in your site, though it'll open up default as Google page. (every body's using their engine now, integrated).

| Super Techie | And i read in the new york times today that Microsoft and Yahoo are changing their search engines. They are really focusing on competing with google. Google is retaliating by introducing software that is more user friendly than microsoft's. It will be a very interesting battle in the upcoming years. |
