Default Photoshop Tutorial (Warning Dial-up Users)

3D Ocean

This one is a bit complicated and somewhat time consuming...

So... letÂ’s get started...

Create a new image... I prefer 1280x1024, as that is a common desktop resolution... but for this I will use 500x400

First I'm going to create the clouds...

Filter > Render > Clouds

Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast

Brightness: +50
Contrast: -50

Now create a new layer

Filter > Render > Clouds

Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast

Brightness: -10
Contrast: +60

After that, set that layer to screen

Layer > Merge Visible (You might label this layer: Sky)

Edit > Free Transform
Right click and select perspective

Zoom out and click the top left or right corner, and pull it about 2/3 away from the image... (If that's too confusing look at the pic)

Double click the image to apply the transformation, and then stretch it about half way up from the bottom

And double click to apply that...

Now create new layer (This one should be labeled: Water)

Use the fill tool to make this layer black

Filter > Noise > Add Noise

Amount: 80%
Distribution: Uniform
Monochromatic: Yes

Filter > Blur > Motion Blur

Angle: 0
Distance: 999

Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Radius: 2.0

Filter > Distort > Glass

Distortion: 20
Smoothness: 15
Texture: Frosted or Canvas (Which ever you prefer)
Scaling: 200%

Now repeat the perspective effect you did on the clouds but in the downward direction (Refer to image below)

Filter > Liquefy (Brush size depends on image size)
Brush Size: 150
Brush Density: 50
Brush Pressure: 100

And make small upward strokes (These should look like waves)

Now create a new layer labeled Horizon

Using the brush tool, draw a white line across the center, where the water and sky meet...

Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Radius: 15.0

Duplicate that layer

Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Radius: 20.0

Layer > Merge Down

You're almost done!

Create a new layer (labeled Color)

Use the fill tool to make it blue

Then change the layer type to color

Now for one final touch-up

Select the Water layer

Image > Adjustments > Levels
Input Levels: 0, 5.00, 200

Congratulations! You're finished

It turns out a lot better when done in a higher resolution (more detail)

For Example:
(photobucket reduced the size... the original is 2560x1024)

posting this was somewhat of a test... I wanted to see how it would turn out on the internet... (it's just a txt file and pictures in a folder on my desktop otherwise)

besides that... does anyone know where I could post this entire tutorial? (some photoshop tutorial site?)
