| Hope someone can enlighten me if i'm wrong or not.. Today i remembered an idea i had ages ago, i searched on google and couldn't find anything about it, i tried again and again, same result which was a bunch of irrelevant crap (probably due to poor searching techniques). My idea and i guess query is... is it possible that metallic colours, like the metallic paint look or metallic pens and pencils look be used on computers? like what i'm meaning is like a "metallic" colour palette added to the original default colour pallete say for example ms paint has... I just see everything lately in computer colours as bland like the vista theme, i just would have thought shiny metallic colours existed for pcs, and to my surprise there isn't such a thing, to my knowledge anyway... actually the word "chrome" might help. I'd like to find out the truth about this and if there is some possiblily because i reckon a shiny desktop and complete OS theme would look awesome. considering computers can pretty much do anything shouldnt this be something that can be done or is it impossible at this stage? god this is racking my brain, anyways thanks in advance if anyone can tell me something on this. cheers ![]() |

| Hello, So you are wondering if there is a way to use a "Chrome" look on your desktop. But of course. There are hundreds of sites that specialize in skinning of not only Windows VIsta but of Windows XP as well. StyleXP, Wincustomize, Neowin, and Deviantart are all site that have skinning methods used on them. Some like Deviantart and Neowin use more conventional methods such as replacing the UXTheme.dll file to replace yoru theme. While StyleXP and Wincustomize use softare such as Windowsblinds. So really it all comes down to if you find a skin that has already been created or to create your own. There is a ton of tuts out there for this stuff. Just respond back and let me know id this is truly what you are looking for. Cheers, Mak Wlecome to Tech-Forums!

| All round good guy! | Sure, the metallic look is all down to light reflections. Which, can of corse, be created in a graphics package. Are you looking to create a theme for yourself or are you looking for an exisiting theme? Cheers, ~ Tkey |

I'm looking for themes, mods and whatver ways to do this and also i mean as well for example with vista when you go to change the desktop background you can just select a 'basic' colour well like having metallic colours for that choice as well. I was wondering would the only real true way to make it look genuinely metallic would be to have that metallic gloss somehow within the screen? which would be dumb and expensive but is that the only real way to make it truely metallic? or can these graphic programs actuually imitate metallic gloss? Because if everyone is just meaning a "metallic look" and not true shiny metallic then i suppose it cannot be done... in other words if your meaning the shiny look like how vista and apple have tried to make things "glossy" then thats not my initial idea. I dont think im explaining my idea clear enough and i apologise, but the only one last thing i can say is a car panel which has metallic paint on it and the way it shines and all that is the effect i want... but thinking further its the question of is it possible to imitate the "gloss" chemicals that make that gloss look and to somehow output it to the users desktop or screen... I'm sure this might raise some questions and we'll see what happens... and hopefully cure my confusion XD ttfn. Last edited by Jables18OSxxx; 07-21-2008 at 02:40 PM. | |

| Hello, Take a look as some skins over at Wincustomize. The Metallic look can only be accomplished if you can make a skin that is to your liking. Some have a Metallic fell to them but may not be what you want or trying to get. It is all limited to the software being used to try and reproduce what effect you want. Cheers, Mak
