Default Fireworks Transparency Problems

I am trying to create an avatar that looks like this:
but I cant get the corners to go transparent again. I have it set on Alfa Transparency but it still wont work. How would I delete the parts in the orange and have it be transparent?

i don't think it would have a made a difference, it would have done the same thing all over again.

No, I was using GIF. I always make sure to do that when I am making something transparent.

do u have BG in FW transparent? also, see the output of the file, you might have to choose the transparency option ON. as I dont use FW but ImageReady, so cannot tell specifically.

the image link is above. I just want the orange parts transparent, then I will change it to look like my current sig/avatar. Thanks!
