Oh and as to why? Because I like to work with photos and even the web graphics I design contain photos and graphics good enough for what I need.

I do not have the need to work with vector graphics, I do not have the need to create postersize graphics

illustrator in some areas...but I use CS2 for the most part..

Illustrator is better for...illustrating. It's more on the book cover, movie cover kind of realm (so to speak).

You really shouldn't compare the two as they both do different things. Although, both do the same thing one does the other better (hope that's not too confusing).
