my cousins green 4gig v2 mini battery was dead only stayed on for 5 min at a time.Well i am spending spring break at his house in Jamaica, and we got bored so we decided to open up the mini, because it just would not respond anymore to anything just dead. so i took it apart and removed the battery and plugged the mini into my wall charger it came to life yay.(at this point i thought hey its a portable hard drive.) I put the battery back in and reassembled the mini. to our surprise after a full charge the mini battery is now working it has about a 4 - 6 hour life span now much better than 5 min.
idk why but i am listening to it right now
but my cousin wants a nano like mine so i am still going to tell his dad its broken and there is nothing i can do and i am going to keep the mini

. I don't need it but i want something more rugged when i go outside to chill with my friends because i never know what we will do and i have had a couple of close calls with my nano. ( too fragile for jumping fences and also when i am high i tend to drop things)
so if you mini is dead and you are too cheap to replace the battery do this
1. take it apart
2. remove the battery
3. plug in the bare mini to simulate a charge ( i think this resets the ipods battery indicator/sensor)
4. put the battery back in and reassemble the ipod
5. charge it
if you are lucky you battery life should improve too
