Snow Leopard Bug Can Delete Account Data

According to ITWire, a bug in Apple's new Snow Leopard version of OS X can lead to a complete loss of user data. The article goes on to say that requests for help have went unanswered in the Apple forums so there is no telling if the company is working on a solution or not.

According to multiple topics on the Apple Support discussion boards, the problem can occur when a user logs into their Mac's Guest account -- whether by accident or on purpose -- and then tries to log back into their regular account.

Apple Acknowledges Snow Leopard Data Loss Issue

It looks like all the negative publicity has forced Apple to finally acknowledge that data loss issue in Snow Leopard we told you about yesterday. While they took their sweet time, at least it is finally getting fixed and that's what counts.

It's the first time Apple has said it is looking into the issue. In early September, a handful of Mac users reported the issue on Apple's discussion boards. The problem, when it occurs, goes like this, according to CNET's MacFixit: when logging into the guest account on their Mac first and then logging into their regular account, some users are finding all their data to be missing and their accounts completely reset
