Default new apple user

i recently bought an apple g3 with OS X 10.4 off ebay for about 100 bucks. i received and and played around with it to get a feel for how it works. i noticed that it only has about 256 MB of ram and a small HD. i've never owned an apple before and i was wondering if i can upgrade the ram and HD? if so, are there special types of ram and hard drives that are compatible with the g3 or will any do?

Hi there, I bought a G3 off ebay too, lol, I went to a site www.macupgrades.co.uk it's really good it's really easy to follow the upgrades.
It also depends how much you want to spend, I have Mac OSX panther, 512mb Ram and an 80 gb hard drive, runs alot quicker, not as quick as a new machine but okay for me. Hope that helps, prank5ter.

go to an Apple store and get them to order parts for you.

I heard that Apples are the same as PC's inside, they use the same components.

Why take it to an Apple store? They're likely to charge an arm and a leg to do it, and he should be able to do it himself.

Is it this G3?

OK, then you can just use sticks of PC100 RAM no bigger than 256MB and get a standard IDE drive for it (no bigger than 128GB without a PCI controller card because the hardware can't handle it).

i have 256 already in it so i can't put anymore in it right? and can i set up a second hard drive for storage?

edit: do you mean the sticks can't be bigger than 256 or the total memory can't exceed 256 MB? i did some research and i read that the memory can be expanded to 1 gig, is that true?

The sticks cannot exceed 4x256, or 1GB. You can add as many HDs as you have controllers.
