The sheer surface area of the powerbooks, not to mention the passive cooling system (air vents) coupled with an active cooler (a system fan) keep them from running too hot. But, unfortunately, the 12 inch powerbook does not have enough surface area to disipate the huge heat that its components generate, crowning it as the hottest laptop Apple makes.
