Default Mac for high school

I'm being granted the role of tech commisioner next year in my high school but the computers they use are macs. They have a real nice g5 fully loaded with all the latest mac software and it looks like fun. Only problem is that I'm a noob with macs and I don't own one or know anyone who does. Do you guys think I should get an apple notebook for this? It would also be nice if you could post mac tutorial sites on how to use stuff like Final Cut and Motion. Thanks a lot.

I'm not looking for a cheap notebook because the jobs I'll be doing involves graphics. If a cheap notebook can handle applications like the stuff I mentioned above, then I'll go for one.

Yeah I know what you're talking about but I was just unsure of it power-wise. Because I don't have any macs at home I wanna make sure the notebook could be a proper desktop replacement.

the simple answer is: yes. I had a Mac Mini with the same processor that's in the G4 iBooks and it ran GREAT! now if your question is, will it run as fast as a top-end G5 or a MacBook Pro, the answer is close, but probably not. but you're spending $1500 as opposed to $2500-$3000 and since you're a student, i assume you don't have A TON of money to spend on a Mac.

Yeah thats what I was looking for. I didn't know how much difference there was in models for macs. I don't really have a budget, just the cheapest notebook that'll help me run the applications smoothly. I think I'll go for the ibooks.

iBooks are good. Just be sure to stock up on your RAM, that's all. OS X eats it for breakfast, making it one of the biggest keys to a well-performing Mac.

By the way, there have been lots of rumours on the upcoming iBook replacement (with the Intel processors) soon, so you might want to consider waiting for what should be a much better-performing product. It's supposedly soon, but rumours are rumours are rumours, so we don't really know anything, except that the current iBooks are overdue for replacement, and that this one's most definitely going to be a significant overhaul.

Exactly, I wait it out since I'm not in such a hurry to grab one. Grabbing memory from newegg shouldn't be a problem at all.
