Beige G3's were manufactured from 1997-1999.
Any extra information you may want on your Mac can be found at http://www.apple-history.com
They have all records from all Macs ever made. Its a great site

XP runs on Pentium 3's no problems, and G3's are about the same age.

You can run XP on a G3 system via VirtualPC. But it would be so incredibly slow that you might as well not even bother.

maybe you dont understand the difference between G3 and P3

G3 = powerpc architecture
P3 = x86 architecture

the processors are completely different and are not at all compatible

there is software that emulates hardware, and can run XP like mac_mogul said, but there is no possible way to run XP natively on a motorola 68k, G3, G4, or G5.

also, the whole point of me getting this mac is that i want to learn how to use the mac OS, as i feel it would be very useful in later life. (i am considering graphic design or architecture) whereas if i somehow got XP going on it, i may as well use my current machine.

OS 9 is a totally different beast from most of the Macs you'll encounter. It's dated (particularly in regards to multitasking performance), and works totally differently, almost as much on the visual surface as in the underlying operating system.
