Apple has released the
iPod HiFi. A home stereo system the size of a toaster oven. Directly compatible with all iPods that have dock connectors, this sound system really screams. It comes with the amazing Apple Remote so you can control your music from anywhere in the room. It also features storage for 6 D-Cell batteries for truly portable use. In a way, Apple has re-invented the BoomBox.
Its really made me happy to know that Apple has gotten back into the audio market. Apple has always been known for their close connections at Bose, and that Apple themselves are quite capable of creating extremely high quality audio systems. I am reminded of the Apple Pro Speakers that, despite their small size, produced sound comparable to systems costing much more -- all the while taking up no more than a few cubic inches of space on your desk.
The only down side that I can see for the iPod HiFi is its $349 price tag. You'll have spent that much already just buying an iPod Video to use with it. I have a feeling that if Apple doesn't do something about the price, third-party manufacturers will dominate in this section of the iPod market.
