They should be around soon, i'd say maybe a year.

The Xserve G5 is our first hint.

Id say that they have to have the .065micron process down before we see any G5 powerbooks. We are currently at the .09 micron process with the PPC970FX (the one in the xserve). Speculation says that this chip will be the one that brings the G5 up to 3GHz but still runs a bit too hot for laptops.

Yep

I think they should offer a special edition G5 powerbook with like a 970 clocked at 1GHz (working off the 1x multiplier on a 1GHz bus) as just a preview of whats to come. Limited production of it, each one serial numbered. The price would be 4,000$.

I bet theyd sell like crazy.

I like that idea (The above one) I would say its a good rule of thumb to go by Apple's past releases and expect it to come out in about a year from the G5's release maybe a little further out. At first everyone felt the G4 would take some time because it was a heat maker. But I think Apple is right now dealing more with the Bus speed. I think getting the G5 current system into Laptop form is the actual challenge. The Chip itself I would think would only present minor problems esp with the things Apple and IBM have done together (Thats so weird to hear together *L* like Gates and Jobs) Anyway I look forward to seeing it.
