Angry The big apple switch (what is becomming of Apple Computer?) :(

I've been a 78% mac user for a vary long time, and this recent move to Intel makes me want to throw my PowerMac g4 in the dumpster out of discust. But before i go Apple flaming, i have a few questions about the Core Duo.
1. Is the Core Duo x86?
2. Is there going to be a PowerMac with a Core Duo in it?
3. Can GOD save us?
4. Is Apple going to switch to Intel entirely, or just with some models?

I'd be vary happy if there was a dual core in the works with one CPU with a PowerPC and the other with a Core Duo. Only then i would buy it.

1. Core Duo is Intel's new mobile platform. It's the follow-up to Centrino, and the actual CPU is the one that was codenamed Yonah. It's definitely x86.
2. I'd be very surprised. Core Duo is the mobile platform, and it won't make its way into many desktops. I was actually surprised to see it in the iMac, but then again, considering its design, the heat concerns of a mobile computer are at least somewhat applicable. Of course, Intel's future desktop processors are going to bear more resemblance to Yonah than to their previous Pentium 4's (or D's); it's a much more efficient design, and it's the beginning of what could be a very good year for Intel.
3. No
4. Entirely, by the end of 2006, according to Jobs' keynote.

If you're going to entirely refuse anything x86, by 2007, you probably won't be able to buy ANY new computer. I'd stop judging everything before you've even had a chance to try any of it. Apple wouldn't just fly to this decision, it would have to pass many meetings and go through plenty of testing and evaluating before they'd have even announced anything. OS X has been compiled for both platforms since its beginning. There must have been plenty of comparisons done. There may be reasons they're doing this that we, the consumers, do not know. Relax

Apple would've have twice as many problems had they gone with AMD (i have nothing against their processors) AMD wouldn't have been able to keep up with demand.

But I definitely think that the switch to Intel is good for Apple.

2. I would think so. But it would definitely be a Dual CoreDuo setup and the system Bus would definitely have to be sped up to have a one-up on the quad G5
3. God uses Macintoshes, so of course!

I seriously doubt it. Core Duo was designed to be a mobile platform, it somewhat makes sense why it would go into an ultra-compact desktop such as the iMac (or the Mac Mini in the future), but it's definitely not going in what's supposed to be a top-of-the-line desktop. Apple may be waiting for the Conroe to be released. I'd expect the Power Mac to be the last product they switch, the four-core G5 machine still has a significant edge at the moment.

I really dont care which processor is in the apple computers, just as long as its the best that they can get.

while i like AMD and dispise intel, i dont think amd and apple work right together. amd is the god of games and servers. while the dual core 64 bit processors are nice, i think that intel will be able to increase mac sales which is a good thing. amd will always be in my desktop.

actually i dont think i'll buy another apple after this powerbook goes kapoot on me... they're too expensive....

I'd still want to buy the quad G5 though if they haven't changed the processor yet. I'm not sure what to say about intel. I really didn't have any good experience with it.

Don't ever forget the history. Intel was one of Apple Computer's BIGEST compeditors. The Motarolla and PowerPC were Apple's closest allies at the time, while Intel RULED the PC market. But when Apple came to IBM to make the PowerPC (IBM was Apple Computer's first ever compeditor back in 1985 ) that was when AMD Totally just took over the PC world. (Ironic, isn't it?)

But get this: After Intel was abandoned on it's own turf, (LOL) Then and only then would they have partnered with Apple. So in my opinion, Intel just isn't any more trustworthy that IBM or AMD. Believe me: Intel is going to abandon Apple (Like they did with Socket 7) the first chance they get.
