Default Apple 27" iMac First Look

Apple 27" iMac First Look

AppleInsider has a first look article about Apple’s new iMac, the 27" model. Boasting an IPS LCD coupled with either an ATI HD 4670 or 4850, the new model definitely upgrades the viewing experience compared to previous models.

Last year, Apple was sued over its iMacs with cheaper, 6-bit TN ("twisted nematic") screens, which have a narrower viewing angle and less color accuracy and depth, because some users argued the screens were technically incapable of actually producing the "millions of colors" supported by their graphics cards. The latest models reverse the trend toward cheap displays and instead provide quality IPS ("in-plane switching") panels that deliver the much improved color and wide, 178 degree viewing angles.

Default Re: Apple 27" iMac First Look

I had a "first look" into the 27" iMac last week... when I tore the thing apart right down to having nothing but a bare aluminum shell in front of me. I think first time tear downs are the only interesting thing I ever do at work. It is a bit more awkward to work on than the previous gen models in my opinion (especially the new logic board placement since the new unit has no removable bezel) but still not very difficult.
