Default 30GB 5th Generation iPod

Alright, so heres the problem. I connect my iPod to my computer, with the iTunes version 7.3.2.6, I try to open my iTunes while my iPod is connected to my computer and it doesn't respond. When I disconnect my iPod, then that's when my iTunes opens up once I double click it. What could be the problem here? I'm just thinking it can be my USB ports since my sister's laptop has USB ports that works and my iPod/iTunes responds.

Or just open the iTunes manually when you plug in your iPod.
