I have 2 desktops running XP home SP2 connected wirelessly via a linksys router, one gateway and one sony vaio. I tried the network wizard with no success. I change settings to enable netBIOS over tcp/icp on both hardward profiles of the wireless adapters, turned off windows firewall on both and it still isn't working.


C drives on both computers are also set to be shared and both computers are in the same workgroup

on the gateway in my workgroup under network places i can see my computer as well as my mom's, the sony

when I try to open it i get the unaccessible/permissions bs error and can't go any further

from the sony desktop when i just try to click view workgroup computers it gives me the error

Did you "share" any folders on either machine? Make sure you shared the folders, and give them a network name. If you want to share the whole computer, go into My Computer, right click the C drive, and go to sharing and security, then click on the tab sharing. Make sure you give it a network name, this should set the permissions for the folder, allowing you to access them. You are an admin on each machine, correct?

are there any other firewalls running? ie zone alarm, norton or macafee.

both are shared and have names : "Wes HD C" and "Mom HD C"

both computers have norton antivirus, does that have a firewall built in? if possible i'd rather not turn those off.

also, the gateway can ping the sony, but the sony can't ping the gateway
