Won't connect to my wireless router

I have a belkin Wireless access point..not sure of the modle. my friend came over and couldn't connect to my network. he could see the network, but every time he would try and connect, it would just stay on the connection window..."please wait while window connects to the "-----" network"... and never connect. we have the same wireless cards in our computers....i think we have the same settings. i don't have all the service packs on my computer, but other computers on my network do....and my friend's computer has all the service packs.
