Default Wireless question...again

I expect your sick of these, but I couldn't find the answer in the archives...

I am thinking of setting up a wireless network for three PCs. I get Broadband via an ADSL line that goes into a Voyager 100 modem, this does not have an Ethernet cable. Normally the modem would be connected to the Wireless router and all machines can then be connected to the router through an Ethernet cable or wirelessly, right?

As I said, my modem doesn't have an Ethernet port so, I would like to share my connection as I do currently on my wired network, via a shared connection. So currently it is: Modem --> PC1 --> Switch --> PC2 & 3.

My question is can I share my connection, in this manner using a wireless router? If so what kit do I need, if not what can I do?

Thanks very much,

TylerD

If you already have a switch there wiht an extra port open, you can pick up a wireless access point and plug into that. Then you'll just need to pick up some wireless NIC cards for any computers that you want to give access to.

I can't think of why you would have a problem with that setup.

If you need some help making sure that you're network is secure, give me a PM.

How is the modem connected to your PC (USB?)

Does the modem have any ports in it (Prob. not if you don't have ethernet, but it doesn't hurt to ask.)

Well, if your modem is only USB compatible, the best thing you should do is enable the ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on your computer that has the modem plugged in. If you do a search on ICS you should find more specific instructions. If you still have questions, by all means.. ask away
