Default Wireless Laptop no signal

Hi,

I have 1 desktop and 1 laptop hooked to a Topcom WBR611 router that is connected to a modem.
Both of them are using Windows Firewall

desktop Win xp pro sp2
laptop Win xp home sp2

My desktop is wired to the router and the internet is working fine. But the laptop says Not connected, and I can't figure out the problem even though I searched through other's threads. I am REALLY new to networking.

Here's what I get from ipconfig on both computers:

I had the same problem with a belkin wireless router. I kept on trying, but I just could not get a connection (It wouldn't find it). I entered the router firmware setup (192.168.1.1) I rebooted the router (hard powercycle, usually a reset button on the back, or in the router setup firmware). Once it restarted, I reconfigured it to have 68 bit encryption, and set the SSID to broadcast itself. Everything seemed to be in working order... Unless, still no connection... I figured out finally, that the problem lied within my dual monitor setup. My router was placed between two monitors, which completely killed the radio signals. Make sure that your router is in an open place, and you should be fine!!! lol

hmmm, did you try getting into the router setup (192.168.1.1) and changing the SSID, and selecting that you want the SSID to broadcast itself?

I had default in the SSID box from the beginning, but then renamed it and have same name on laptop too.

By the way, beside that LAN connection on my desktop
pc and wireless connection on laptop, should there be a Network Bridge connection on the desktop?
Thx for the reply

Editing: I see that the Laptop NIC has 2 leds where the Tx/Rx is blinkning but the Link led is not on nor blinking
And in Proporties for Wireless connection (laptop) under Advanced, should NetBIOS Config be Standard which now is checked, or should I change it to Activate NetBIOS over TCP/IP or Inactivate NetBIOS over TCP/IP?
