Default Wireless home network help please

I am going to purchase a home wireless network and the location of computers will be pretty close like next room and right upstairs so distance wont be a factor. I will be adding a Satalite High speed internet system later next month so want it to be compatable to that. (Rural Pa so its satalite or dial up) I see alot of equipmant showing 54 Mbps, is this the standard, I am really new to this can someone help me out.

I am thinking about this one (Linksys® Wireless-G SpeedBooster Router) is this a good choice, is the Speed Booster worth the extra $10.00?

Any help or sugestions would be appreciated

I dont think you need the Speedbooster, its just a home network. You will need to have the folowing for a home network:

Modem(comes with ur hi speed package)
Wireless Router
Cat5 (Network/Ethernet Cable, u will get one each with ur router and modem, so you dont need to buy)
Wireless Adapter(one per computer except the first).

Your Router will connect to your modem with the first cat5 cable u get and ur modem wil connect to your dsl connection. Then from your Router you will use the other cat5 cable and connect it to your first computer. You then buy a Linksys Wireless Adapter (USB/PCI), and connect it to your other computer in the other room which wants network access. The rest is step by step instructions on installing drivers, configuring ur connection, etc.

54mbps is standard and it is good enough.

Try and keep the devices the same brand, some vendors dont work well with other vendors. Even tho they are spose to according to WiFi standard

Default Plan to go with Satellite next month...

If you're going with the DW6000 system, this may help...
Q: How do I use wireless networking with my DW6000 Consumer Service? (#8506)

A: By far, the easiest method is to use a Wireless Access Point (WAP) rather than a Wireless Router. The WAP can be connected to a port on your switch or hub or directly to the DW6000 just like any other device. You then follow the directions that come with the WAP to connect your wireless clients.

If you must use a Wireless router, you can use one of the two connection and addressing methods described here: »I already have a router. How do I use it with the DW6000 Consumer version?. As far as connecting the wireless clients, it is no different than any other broadband connection. Follow the instructions that came with your router or and/or get more detailed information in our wireless networking forum: »Wireless Networking
