I think we should worry about DNS for right now. Without DNS working properly, AD will never work properly.

On the Server

Start>Administrative Tools>DNS>Click on the server icon>click on "forward lookup zone"

Tell me how things look

I would investigate your DNS a little more and make sure that it is working first.

ok when i click on the forward lookup zones folder i see Testserver.Server1.Comptech.com. When i click on that folder i see two little icons that look like notepads that have this
name : (same as parent folder) Type : Start of authority (SOA)
name : (same as parent folder) Type : Name Server (NS)

ok

Go back onto your WinXP machine, and type in Run...

\\Testserver.Server1.Comptech.com

If that doesnt work just type in:

\\Testserver

And, if that doesnt work, then open a command prompt:

ping Testserver.Server1.Comptech.com

and if that doesnt work,

ping testserver

Ok i did that but none of it worked out. When i typed in \\Testserver.Server1.Comptech.com it said it failed to contact the server and it said the same thing with \\Testserver. When i tried to ping the server it said it cound not find the host for either of them.

Go back onto your server, and back into the DNS Management Console. Then go into your Testserver.Server1.Comptech.com zone. Right click on the right side of the screen (beside the SOA and NS records) and in the drop down menu, select "New Host(A)"

Then, in the Name box type in:

Blah

Then for the IP address, type in the IP address of the server.

After that, go back onto the WinXP machine, open a command prompt and type the following:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
