how the crap do you network xin xp. i dont have internet i just need to back up some data on another copmputer.i am running a coustom desktop and a laptop hp ze2000.the laptop is running throu the usb port and the desk top is running throu a 10/100 line
.i have a cable modem for the router and i used network magic and i hate it.i need to use the windows network wizzerd.how do i do it i cant figur it out.

i am good with hardware i just cant network. i have looked at the windows site and its no help.

both computers are using win xp home with sp2.

Are you getting a valid IP address on the Laptop?

On BOTH computers please perform the following:
Go to START > RUN > 'CMD' > 'IPCONFIG /ALL'

Note down and post the following info:
IP ADDRESS
SUBNET MASK
DEFAULT GATEWAY

Also, both PC's have to be in the SAME workgroup, and filesharing permissions have to be ON.
