| The problem is that I installed a Linksys 54G Wireless PC Adapter on my friends Dell Inspirion 1100 Laptop. After the installation the wireless signal is very good BUT Internet Explorer still won't open any sites. My HP computer using another of the same cards and Win 2000 have no problems. I feel it has to be a compatability issue with Win XP and and the Lnksys Card. Any ideas on how to fix?

| Do you have an IP address? Start, run, cmd, ipconfig My Linksys PCMCIA wireless card will tell me that I have 100% signal strength yet still not be able to lease an IP address from the DHCP server. I have an IP address of 0.0.0.0 or 169.x.x.x, so webpages will not load in Internet Explorer. This could be your problem. If this is the case, I suggest checking your security settings on your router. |

| i doubt was a bad card, probably an IP problem as he suggested. when you switched it may have simpley renewed your IP on DHCP server from router. that wireless card is compatible with win98 to winXP. i have setup many of those cards, they are great. |

| I agree, it probably wasn't a bad card. We bought a second one with the same results. The problem is that when the cards are in his computer they see a different IP address than what my card is seeing in my computer. When I put my card in his computer it sees the same IP address as it does when in my computer. He is then able to connect to the Internet BUT it drops and regains the connection every few seconds. We are temporarily staying in a townhome complex that is supposedly High Speed Internet Accessible (depends on their definition of accessible). I think that what may be happening is that I am picking up someones' near-by router. My card in my computer is also now beginning to intermittently drop the Internet connection also. If their meaning of accessible is what I suspect, then today I will have the local Time Warner Road Runner install a modem in our place. What's funny is that in my permanent home, I have Adelphia Cable Internet and there is only one charge and I can connect as many computers as I want. Here, with Time Warner there is an additional price for every computer above the initial one. Any thoughts on a way around that.
