Default wierd XP Network problem

I'm running windows XP
I'm using a Nvidia Nforce4 AMD motherboard with the inbuilt network card
i'm currently at a 2 day LAN and my Network connection isnt working properly
I can ping and be pinged
I can join others games
I cant file share
I cant resolve names to ips such as ping (computer name)

I have tried old and new network card drivers
I have tried upgrading from service pack 1 to service pack 2

A quick response is greatly appreciated cause i already payed AUS$60 for entry and accomodation just to find out i cant interact with shared files.

Well I see the problem why you can't share, you don't have NetBIOS functioning properly. That's why you can't resolve computer name when you ping and that's why you can't share file because you can't resolve the other computer. Usually I would assume it's enable, what you should check to see is if you are in the same workgroup.
