What's the best way to set up a VPN server?

I'm wanting to set up a VPN server on an XP machine, but I've never used VPN before so I'm not sure of the best way to do it.

I need to be able to connect to the server from both Windows and a Mac, preferably without having to install additional software on the clients.

Thanks. I used the first one there and got it working on my LAN, but I can't figure out how to connect from outside the LAN. I'm using no-ip.com for my dynamic ip service and I know there must be some configuration to do with my router, but I just can't get a connection going.

Any ideas on that?

what router mod do you have ?

I just figured that part out, actually. I'm running DD-WRT. I had to forward ports 1723, 500, 51 and 50.

Now the only problem I have is I can only connect one client at a time. Is it possible to get multiple connections to the server at the same time? I need to share this VPN with several other users.
