Default VPN Compatibility

Hi everyone. I'm a noob when it comes to firewalls. I am trying to set up an VPN between two networks. One is using a Netscreen 25 FW and the other is using an SME(?) FW. I've tried searching to see if these two are compatible as far as creating a VPN connection. I was unsuccessful. I heard that it's best to use two firewalls of the same make. Are these FWs comatible? I can't search Juniper's site because I'm not a member. Thanks.

They don't have to be the same. VPN is a VPN, no matter what device you configure it on.
If you're using ipsec as a protocol for example, make sure that all vpn info (hash, encryption, crypto maps etc)match on both firewalls and you shouldn't have problems.
I have been configuring vpn's between cisco and different vendor equipment with no problems, but having the equipment from same vendor helps in configuring since once you configure one, you can easily configure other peer.
