Default upgrade my firmware?

Hello everyone, I didn't know where to post this so here it is..
I've been told that I should upgrade my firmware on my Linksys router for security reasons. Is it a good idea? Should I not bother. These things always give me problems when I try them. Thanks in advance. -t

For security reasons??? That seems somewhat odd, most people only upgrade their firmware if they have having compatibility problems and etc...

Is this a wireless router?

If it is wireless it could have a WPA or WEP update of some kind. What router and what version of the firmware are you on?

If you flip the router over, on the bottom side, it should say something like Linksys Router WR54GV4 and then it should have a serial and a something that says F/W: 1.01 or something like that, we want to know what the number is after the F/W

Do routers automatically update their firmware. For example 3com?
