Default Updating Router Firmware

I've been having slow internet connections lately, so I've been told to check my firmware for my router, BEFSR41 EtherFast Cable/DSL Router, to see if that helps. Well Ive forgotten my customer login name and now I cant, well obviously, login. So is there anyway I can update my firmware now? I know I have done so in quite sometime.

Did you personalize your BEFSR41 at all? port forward, etc? I would just reset it and use "admin", "admin". Then, update the firmware and then reconfigure it to whatever you had before.

Im pretty sure I changed the "admin" "admin". do you happen to know the IP address for the linksys router?

The BEFSR41 default address is 192.168.1.1

In order to connect you must have the computer connected to it to obtain an IP address automatically from the router. Once obtained type the address into your browser and provide the user and password.

Disable and Enable your NIC is one way to obtain the address, or you can do ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew in command prompt. Whatever helps, as long as you get an address so you can connect to router.

there's four downloads that fit my router, which one do I choose?

I'm sorry guys, but routers and IP addresses, etc. have always been particularly confusing to me.

Look under your router, there is a sticker that will have the model # and version on it.
