Default Something special I need for a router hookup?

I just got comcast high speed cable internet the other day, works fine and my roommate wants to use it on his comp too, he has a router and hooked it up and it didnt work, is there some kind of software we need on our comps to make this work, or something im not doing right??

What kind of router is it? Did you reset the comcast modem by power cycle? Did you do a master reset on the router? Did you run the router software?
