Question Some Sites Unavailable

For the past two days I've been unable to access some sites on the internet. I'm on a Dell Dimension XP and up until Friday (25th) everything was fine. Now a number of sites (ebay, valleyfirstcu, wunderground...) come back with the page not found error.
I've tried pinging from a dos cmd box and get the "ping request could not find host ebay.com".
I used mcAfee to do a scan but no results...
Has anyone else had this kind of problem?
TIA

Ive had that problem with newegg, I can go to the homepage and click on categories, but when I click on a product it goes to the page not found. I reset my modem and called tech support but they havent solved the problem.

Same here, Jess. It happened when we had switched out our modem for that new one...Newegg just stopped working for me. Every toher site worked perfect, except that one. Luckily I kept my old modem/swapped it back out for the new one they sent... I had called tech-support before, too, but they hadn't been able to fix it... They said "they would talk with the higher-ups and get back to me" or somethin like that...

Yeah, but the weird thing is, we could both just switch out to our old modems... and they worked perfectly fine... but if we go around, and switch right back to the new one... it stops working =\.

Exclamation Re: Some Sites Unavailable - More Info

More INFO
My system is using a Belkin Wireless DSL Router. I checked the Firewall log for the router and I'm getting this kind of messages in the log:
Firewall log:
Tue May 29 10:59:06 2007 1 Blocked by DoS protection 122.46.101.70
Tue May 29 11:00:07 2007 1 Blocked by DoS protection 204.16.210.235

Tue May 29 11:14:25 2007 1 Blocked by DoS protection 72.141.227.192
This is happening when I try to access the sites I mentioned earlier. Any ideas of why I'm getting the 'Denial of Service' blocking for these sites? Most websites are still available to me...

There's your problem, it's a Belkin.

What's the model of it? I think you will have to disable that DoS feature. Have you tried directly connecting to your broadband modem?

Smile Re: Some Sites Unavailable

Actually Belkin solved my problem. I sent them a copy of the security log and they responded that the cause was spyware. They recommended I download SpyBot and run a scan and destroy on my computer. SpyBot detected 147 problem programs. After clearing them, all the websites were now available plus my computer is running much faster...
I thought McAfee protected against spyware, but obviously not!
Thanks for the inputs.

Nope, McAfee's only anti-virus. Along with Spybot, you should get Ad-aware from Lavasoft. Very good tool to work along with Spybot =).
