    Default Slow downloads, OK speed

Hey guys so I have an alright internet connection with slow downloads on Steam and Origin, etc. I went to Best Buy's website and did the internet speed test and it came out to 1.6mbps download speed. On Steam and Origin I get up to 200kbps and sometimes it will jump up to around 500 and slowly come down. I use my internet provider's modem and my own Linksys N router that I bought from Best Buy. I need to know if there's anything wrong with my connection or anything, thanks!

That's actually fast for your connection. I have a 1.5mbps connection and I see around 180kb/s download speeds. Also remember that line speed doesn't equate to what you see for download speeds. That 1.5mbps doesn't mean that you'll see 1.5mb/s when you're downloading from steam or origin. The fact that you can get up to 500kb/s and it actually downloads at that rate is pretty good, but 200kbps is pretty standard for around a 1.6mbps connection. Also what are you paying for in your internet connection? If you're paying for around a 1.5mbps line then you're where you should be at, but if you're paying for more like 2mbps or higher then call up your provider and get on their case.

I looked at the bill once and it was like $40. I looked on our isp's website and for $40 it's around 5-12mbps

1.6 Megabits per second = 1638 kilobits per second.
I know from personal experience, steam displays in kilobytes per second.
    8 bits in 1 byte
    1638 / 8 = 204 KBps.

if you are getting 200 KBps from Steam, that sounds about right.

Do you need a sound card? Probably not - take the test and find out.
