| well, the only way to manage that would be the map the drive locally to your parents machine and then install the gaem on that machine, but change the install path to the network share. it's doable, but it will more than likely run slow.
if, on the other hand you had an external drive, you could do that too.
In both cases, the problem you are going to run into is that you will have to install the games no matter what inorder to play them on that computer. There is just no way around that...
good luck... |

| Reply This is called application sharing. It is one of the features of many messengers, including MSN Messenger.
Just open a conversation with somebody, and look in the menus for app sharing... |

| He's not trying to do it over the Internet. He wants to install a game on a "server" and be able to run it on any computer.
I don't think it would run too slow on a 100Mb network, but I don't know how to do it. |

From that stage on, a mapped drive is just another harddrive, so you select that harddrive during an install.
Remeber, a 100Mb network is only 12.5MB. Also many network cards eat up CPU time when their running full out. They can use up to 50% of it on a recent PC. |

| Reply Let's say you'll install it on a network drive.
Even if you do so, the game will surely add some data to the Windows Registry in the install process. THIS DATA WILL NOT BE ADDED TO ANY OF THE OTHER COMPUTERS. So this kind of installation is likely to fail. |

| You could use VNC to play the game on the server and watch the screen on the other computers, but this will be really laggy and slow. |

| M3trj,
not really since almost all display drivers used for remote control and monitoing cause the display system to run poorly. I doubt that you could even get the game up..
c0mplexity, Yes a little data will be saved ont eh install machine, but that is the way Windows works. The save data and all other data can be remapped if you know how. it's all a matter of how much you want to do each time you want to play your game...
This is very doable, but not recomeneded since the limitations of the network, game performance, and computer performance are all going to likely cause issues.
Good luck |
