You will need a router and a few cat 5 or 6 cables depending on how many computers you are networking together.

We have a regular Linksys router with two desktop computers networked and my son's PS2 hooked up to the router. I have an iBook provided by my work that I would like to use at home. Is it possible to piggy back a wireless router on the regular one? and then use the iBook?

Yes. What you really want is just a wireless access point (AP). What you can do is buy a wireless router and disable the router portion and use just the AP inside to get wireless coverage for your home.
