Default Server problems with Windows 2000 Pro

I've been trying to run a realVNC server on my Windows 2000 box, but failing to get it to work. The service starts up fine and I configured it properly, but I still can't connect to it.

Whenever I use my browser to try and access the server from another comp, it tells me that the server refused the connection. It seems like my computer's there, just not wanting anyone to connect.

My computer even refuses connections when I try using localhost, and I have VNC set up to allow local connctions.

I had this exact same issue with a MySQL server and a Halo server. It's like none of the ports are open.

I don't have a firewall installed (unless one comes with win2k), and I'm on a wireless network. I have no idea what is causing this.

Knowing my history with computers, it's probably somthing stupid and obvious.

Thanks in advance for any help,
agrif

Try Tridia VNC. I'm using it on a W2k3 server, but it will also work on a workstation. It has it's own server-side that operates independently from windows.

RealVNC will work on any OS from 9x on up. You don't connect through your web browser though. You connect through the proprietary VNC viewer.

Yeah thats right - i have used Real VNC to connect to a win2k server many times. If you go to the VNC website it gives you the option to download the full package which contains the server and client program.
