Default Removing Network Question

I have a laptop on a wireless network communicating with a hardwired desktop through a linksys router.

Just out of curiousity how would I permanently remove my laptop from the network. Is it simply by disconnecting drive once. Will my laptop connect to network everytime I start up.

I also have a question about ping. I see alot on these boards about pinging. What is it? How do I do it?

As you can see, I'm a newbie, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

NV

in the window that shows available networks hit the disconnect button. Click the advanced settings button and remove the network from that list. You will now no longer automatically connect to that network.

Pinging another computer involves sending a specially formed packet to that computer. If the computer receives the packet then it replies by sending a packet back and you know that there is a path between both computers. Mainly used in network troubleshooting.
