Default remote desktop issue over internet

hi,
I am planning to do remote desktop on laptop from the internet. Actially i've two computer. One is server 2000 and another is laptop with win xp prof.

I can remotly log on to my server by http but could not do anything with my laptop. Actually i just want to enable remote desktop service of windows xp behind firewall.

I did portforwarding of port 3389 but i m getting "no connection message....."

I've also google the thing and setup as per help but i can only be able to do localhotortnumber but not from the remote machine from the net..

when i ping from the machine on net to my laptop (real ip) i am getting continuous reply from so i guess it is no connecitivey issue.

so what shold i do am i skipping anything over here?

much appreciate your help

Is there any idea?

Check out these 2 articles, and see anything you did wrong..I tried before, didn't have connection problem from Internet.

Remote Desktop Connection from Internet

Enabling Remote Desktop Web Connection in Windows XP

Also check any firewall blocking on computer(Windows firewall, antivirus firewall, etc) or router.

Hope helps..

This may be a stupid question, but you did enable the Remote Desktop access on the receiving machine right? If you want to be lazy (also to see if it works) put the LAN IP of the XP machine in the 'DMZ' option of the router. That puts that computer outside the NAT so wen ur online and put ur public IP address in, it will all go to that machine. It places ur computer outside of the firewall too, so be careful.
