Default Reconnecting a laptop to the internet

Recently I have reinstalled windows XP on my laptop and whiped harddrive. Now i can't go on the internet. whats the problem? when trying to create a new connection to the internet.. as all were erase.. the laptop is having trouble identifying the modem it is connected to.. whats the problem?

Make sure you have installed the network card properly. Check that the drivers are installed and the system can find this card.

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. Select Device Manager and then expand the Network Adaptors tree. It might have a yellow question mark symbol next to it or a red X over it if windows isn't recognizing it. If windows isn't recognizing certain devices, then install any drivers that came with your laptop. If you don't have any cd's, then you can always download the driver from the manufacturer's site.
