Default Proxy servers

Hi, I was wondering if anyone is familiar with free proxy servers? Are they reliable and secure? I would like to use them to log on to a chat room anonymously? In other words I am trying to have my IP address show up as anonymous. If not, is there any other way of doing this? Thanks for any help. It is appreciative.

What I am trying to do is some IP masking. I'm not sure if I need a proxy server or not. I use verizon as a ISP which is connected to a dsl modem which is connected to router which connects 2 PC's. I am trying to mask the IP of my WAN provided through my ISP. Is there a way to do this?

If it's possible to do this via proxy server, would it slow down the speed / throughput of my computer as I am running off a dsl modem / T1 provider?

Yea, thats essentially what Multiproxy is. You go through their proxy server and then your IP address will change. If you are being kicked via IP ban then this IP won't be recognized as a trouble IP address.
