Default Problems with my integrated ethernet port

Hi
I am having problems with my integrated ethernet port. My MOBO is a Gigabyte 81875 Ultra and it has a Intel PRO/1000 CT Network Connection.
I have always had a hard time installing the drivers for it . Every now and then, the driver disappears and when i login it says it has detected new hardware ethernet controller .....

Last time when i had installed the drivers, i took the precaution of establing a good configuration point, this time when it came up with the message that it had detected new hardware... i restored it but it did not have any effect.

I then proceeded to install the driver and this is the message i got
"Installing this driver is not recommended because Windows cannot verify that it is compatible with your hardware. If the hardware is not compatible, your hardware will not work correctly and your computer might become unstable and stop working completely.
Do you want to continue installing this driver "

I went for option Yes,
but the computer did not want to install it, and when i went back to the device manager, the driver was not there, i tried to install it a number of times, but it did not work.

in the end the device seemed to be there, but there were no drivers installed, and i could not uninstall it since the computer said something about it being important for boot ??

Finally i decide to plug in my old ethernet card (PCI device)from my old computer, and lo and behold the green light on the integrated ethernet port became green, and it decided to start working.

now i have got two ethernet devices on my machine, is that unstable? the first time when i was trying to install the driver, i had ended up with the same configuration (two ethernet cards) but it was not letting me disable one of the ethernet ports (even with the cables out).

next time it installed itself all of a sudden, without even booting up.

this time around it installed with a second network card sitting beside it.

is there an issue with Intel PRO/1000 CT Network card?
is there no way possible to save the state of my configuration, drivers included?
is it stable to have two ethernet cards in my system?

I used the Intel(R) PROSet for Wired Communications when i faced the problem
It said
"No device exists for this installed miniport

Possible causes
The device has been disabled or removed.

Possible solutions
Enable the device from Device Manager or plug the device back into the system.

I obtained the following information when it started working
General
Ethernet Address 000D1410A2C
Part Number Not available
IP Address 10.0.0.4
Network Driver Status Loaded

Network Status
Link Speed -- 100 Mbps
Activity Duplex Full

This adaptor is capable of connecting at a higher speed

Default

Try doing this,

Go into the command prompt, and try to ping the local network connection by typing " ping 127.0.0.1 " If you get a response, it is the first positive sign of a working NIC.

Also, verify the network card model number, it will help in getting the right drivers.

One other thing, check the device manager to see if windows can recognize the network card. If you see a yellow exclamation mark, then there is obviously a driver issue. If you don't even see it, then it is either disabled on the bios level... or you have a defective NIC.
