When I try to connect to the internet via IE or Firefox, when I try Firefox I get:
Component returned failure code: 0x80040111

I can use AOL to connect, but when I try to use Windows update, I get:
Error number: 0x80072EFD and none of Microsoft's solutions for that work.

Anybody have any ideas as to what I can do?

You need to tell us more about your set up. How are you getting to the Internet (cable modem, DSL, etc.) Also, how do you access the Internet with AOL? Is a router involved in the network? Beyond this, is this a new computer that has never connected to the Internet or is this a new problem that just appeared on a system that was working? Please provide as much information and background as possible.

Could be hardware or software IMO. YOu need to give more details. What hardware do you have, what OS, when did this issue start, did you do anything before this issue, did you just reformat, have you done a virus scan, have you done a spyware scan, have you tried reinstalling the drivers, how is your current network setup, can you connect through any other computers on that same network?
