| i have a hard time setting up my computer for internet connection sharing. i followed the instructions on ICS posted at viperlair.com but it didn't help. my desktop is running on windows xp with 2 local area connections. my internet is via DSL connected to local area connection 1 on my desktop. Then another intenet wire connects form local area connection 2 on my desktop to my ASUS laptop (client computer). im having problem with the ASUS laptop (client computer) not receiving internet connection despite doing this: 1. setting up my desktop for internet connection sharing usinng network connection wizard on my desktop. Then i manually placed the IP address 192.168.0.1 and 255.255.255.0 at local area connection 2 because it did not automatically registered that IP address (192.168.0.1 and 255.255.255.0). I run the command prompt in my ASUS laptop (C:\ ipconfig renew thing). 2. reinstalling the LAN driver of my laptop. my ASUS laptop also runs in windows xp My ASUS laptop has "limited or no connectivity". While on the desktop it says "local area connection 2 is connected". when i checked on the status of local area connection on the laptop i noticed that it can send thousands of packets but receives zero sometimes tens or hundreds of packets. when i checked on the status of local area connection 2 on the desktop it receives zero packets and sents thousands of packets. Im not sure if this is exactly what i observed but it similar to this:my laptop sents but doesnot receive packets or the opposite and my desktop sends but doesnot receive packets; they are opposite the other computer receives packets and the other only sends packets). this is the first time it happened. few weeks ago my laptop can received internet connection coming from my desktop or thru an internet hub. Now it turned like this. it can only received internet connection when i directly connect my laptop to the my DSL modem. could it be a bug? my laptop uses AVG FREE as an antivirus and it detected trojan horse dropper CBV in my laptop. I hope with all the explanations and descriptions i made somone could help me with this. Thank You |

| Super Techie | Well if you had a Trojan Horse Dropper...I would suggest cleaning off the PC entirely before attempting anything else. It will only cause more problems if you leave it alone and it could very well be forming an issue with your networking stuff as well.
