| Dope Tech | the idea behind port forwarding is that incoming traffic needs to be directed to certain pcs by the router. You will determine different application's traffic by the different port numbers. what you need to know to setup port forwarding is the private ip of the pc that you want the outside world to connect to. As well as the port number or range that the application uses. Once this is set up, the router will forward all traffic on that port(s) to that ip.

| honk if you route packets | Log into the router and click on Setup/Configuration, then click on advanced setup on the left pane. Click Begin Advanced Setup, and on the left pane there will be a Port forwarding link. First you need to find out ALL of the ports you need to forward to your gaming server. Let's say that you need to forward 6001-6999 and then you also need to forward 7003. In the IP port range fields, you will need to use 6001 to 6999. Click TCP in the next field. In the IP address field, place the internal ip address of your gaming server (i.e. 192.168.0.100) or whatever it is. Then click ADD. You will need to do the SAME thing a second time. 6001 to 6999 and this time switch the TCP field to UDP and then place the same gaming server ip address in the IP address field. Then click ADD. Then you will also have to ADD a port range from 7003 to 7003 TCP to the same ip address and then finally add 7003 to 7003 UDP to the same IP address. Finally, when you have all of the ranges you need, click SAVE and RESTART. It's very important to add ALL of the port ranges you need to ALL at one time. With any other gateway/router, it wouldn't be a problem to add some now and then add some later, but Actiontec makes horrible combo DSL modem/gateway/routers. (sorry, but it's true). You'll find that if you add some ports now and some later that the router will lose ALL of the custom settings that you configured and go back to the default settings out of the box. |
