Question PC loses connection after a while...

I have been having this problem for a while now. After a while that my pc is on, and the system is idle for a while, i open IE, and it doesnt connect. Email doesnt connect. nothing does. Does anyone know why my pc loses connection after a while? If i continuously use the internet, its remains fine, just if i let it sit a while with no activity. I have cable, going to the main computer, then routed to my computer as well as a laptop in another room. But no other pc has this problem, only mine. any advice?

There is a property found on most NICs that will allow the computer to turn the NIC off if it isnt being used. Goto Device Manager, right-click the NIC and goto properties. There should be a tab that will say "Power Management." This might vary depending on your NIC

This also has happened with firewall like zonealarm conflicting with a d-link router (or other company's)

Thanks for the replies. Elabtrop, I went into the device manager and unchecked the box that says "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." I think this is what you're talking about. We'll see if that works. thanks again
