Default Odd Networking Problem

Hi,

I set up a network in my house with a Linksys WRT54G and for some reason, i've been getting odd disconnections.
I've connected my Xbox 360, my PC (running XP), and my Notebook (running Vista and through wireless)
Connecting through the router, i can use one device at a time after all have been turned off. If i try to connect both my Xbox AND my PC, or all 3, everyone seems to lose internet connection.
I called the comcast guy and he told me that it was a problem with my PC's network card and he pretty much avoided the issue with my Xbox 360. My network drivers have worked before and without fail. I've checked up on my connection and it says the problem is that it failed to recieve a network address. I've tried to assign static DNS's and i dont think i did it right.
What i'm thinking right now is that theres a confliction with the IP addresses or with DNS servers. I'm not a pro at networking so i'm really not sure at all. I mean, it could be a problem with my router itself, but the weird thing is before i've been able to connect both PC's to the internet, i'm not really sure if i was ever able to connect all 3, i've never really noticed.
Also, i've been able to play on Xbox Live before.
Honestly, this is very tiring and i'm not really sure what exactly IS going on. Again, it just seems like theres some kind of confliction with IP's or something...

Default Re: Odd Networking Problem

When first reading your issue, It seemed as though it was a single connection issue, coming from a result of your router not being set up to use PPPOE. However, I'm pretty sure comcast (being a cable provider) doesn't use PPPOE. However, that might have changed since I last checked.
It's usually the DSL providers that require PPPOE to be used.

If you use a username and password to log into the internet, then you need to set up your router to do that. Once the router is set up to log into the internet, any and all devices connected to it will be able to access the net without fault.

In any case, it seems as though the comcast tech you talked to was an idiot. If your computer can get on at all, its network card is fine. The problem lies in the router.

How many avialable IP address do you have in the router's DHCP pool?

It if your COMPUTER that is failing to get an IP address from the router, not the router failing to get an IP address from the ISP.... correct?
