I am setting up my first wireless network with a d-link 802.11g router. I just have a couple of questions. Should I enable WEP? 64-bit or 128-bit? Will this slow the connection down any? Should i leave the SSID on default and the channel on 6? Thanks
Change the SSID and channel. Use 128-bit WEP and MAC address filtering if available. Still, don't send any information you wouldn't want someone to overhear over your wireless network without having it encrypted (WEP doesn't count).

Your best bet is to make sure the network is fully functional, and THEN turn on encyption otherwise your gonna have a whale of a time trying to get the network to work!
128-bit WEP encryption doesn't make a big difference to the speed of the network. Most probably you won't notice it.

harrytewkesbury is right, get it working first then play around with things. If you want it secure then I'd say use WEP, Mac filtering and disable the SSID. This means you will have to type the SSID in manually.
