Default Networking problem....father got new computer...

Hey guys,

Here's the story. About a week ago my dad got a new computer, and then everytime from there on my internet fails every 40minutes to 1 hour. I need to restart everytime and then my internet timer starts off.

-_-

So I checked my ipconfig, and I noticed something peculiar. "Lease obtained", and "Lease Expires" headings with times approx. 1 hour between each other. ...soo...wtf is wrong with my internets?

>.<

Usually if the lease time is too frequent, the computer will disconnect when trying to request for it's IP address again. Your router's web configuration has the setting to control the DHCP lease time, by setting the lease time longer you could avoid those frequent request. I recommend at least 7 days to 8 days being maximum.

Well, can anyone tell me how to stop "leasing" IP's to begin with. Before this I had constant internet and a constant Ip address that I set in the protocol area.

Routers automatically distribute IP's through leasing. Now, you can change the length of time they hold before expiring. Mine are set to 7 days exactly. I would suggest setting yours like Law said, 7-8 days. Set it up in your routers administration page.
